A little while later her head nestled upon his chest, Opal smiled, whispering, "This is definitely not a dream." giving a throaty chuckle." Being in the arms of someone that I love."
Spencer kissed the top of her head and didn't answer for a moment, but he smiled at the sentiment. She loved him? "Careful using those words... Once you say them, you're stuck with me, you know that right?"
Raising her head Opal moved to look into his eyes, a quizzical expression in them. "D-do you want me to take those words back? I didn't say those words lightly at all. Was it too soon for me to utter them?" her brow furrowing in worry.
He let one arm wrap softly around her and his other hand move her hair out of her face before hooking his finger and thumb under her chin to gently lift it up, "Please never take those words back, I know you mean it." She was so beautiful right at that moment and his heart was feeling so full. "And I love you too. Since day one." He leaned in to give her a lingering kiss.
Once they had parted, Spencer leaned back to lay his head on the pillow with his free arm behind his head. He was so content right at the moment, like everything had aligned and nothing could go wrong for them. Letting a deep breath out and with his eyes closed and a smile on his face, he spoke quietly, more to himself than anything, "Hopefully you say the same thing if I asked you to marry me."
Wait is Spencer planning on asking me to marry him? Is he asking me to marry him right now? Not wanting to jump to conclusion, Opal carefully stated. "I don't think my mind and feelings will change not one iota. If you asked me to marry you, I would say yes. Whenever you feel is the right time to do so." was that too cautious of an answer? Was it too roundabout? Opal really didn't want to assume anything. Hopefully she isn't chasing him away.
With his eyes still closed, Spencer grinned and raised an eyebrow, "Are you sure about that?" He ran his fingers up and down along the middle of her back absentmindedly.
"Ask me then you'll see." Smiling but a rather serious expression in her eyes. this was something Opal wasn't going to joke around about. "I will say yes, and I will love you always. Come what may." moving upwards and placing a kiss upon his lips.
Spencer sat up a little and continued to look at her while he stroked her back, "I guess that's a sign to ask you formally then." Surprisingly, he wasn't actually nervous when he said the next words, not even because he was still sleep-addled, "As soon as I met you, I knew there was a spark between us that has grown into a flame that no one can extinguish. We've already been through so much together, and I want to keep going through everything with you. Opal, would you do me the honour and be my wife and be the only person I want as my co-pilot for the rest of this life and the next?"
Her eyes went round as saucers, he- he wasn't kidding! It wasn't what she expected but, she was very happy to hear those words! She stared into Spencer's gorgeous eyes, becoming lost in them for a few long moments. A small voice in the back of her mind said, you may want to answer him. Didn't she answer Spencer? "Oh, yes I will marry you!" giving him an excited kiss.
"That's my girl," Spencer laughed as he wrapped his arms around her and continued to kiss her deeply and passionately. He didn't think he could love her more in this moment. "I promise there'll be a ring to make it official soon too."
A soft laugh from Opal, full of wonder and also thinking is this a dream? Will I wake up and find this was just a fairytale? Well, whatever happens, I am going to just enjoy this for as long as I can, snuggling deep into Spencer's warm embrace.
Freeing a hand and sweeping her hair out of her face, Spencer gently made her look up at him, "By the way, this still isn't a dream. This is all real, I promise." It had been a whirlwind of a morning and all the previous reservations he had when he first woke up were now gone. Next, he wanted to find the perfect ring for Opal before he even thought about how Rubi would react to this news.
"You must be a mind reader, as I was wondering if this were a dream or not." Opal giving a light laugh. "And the ring doesn't need to be anything outrageous. Or could be something like a bracelet as well. Spencer, one thing that you will find out, I am someone who... can be somewhat non-traditional. Does that make me weird?"
"Non-traditional? What do you mean by that?" Spencer queried. He liked the idea of getting her a bracelet, maybe even a matching ring and bracelet set.
"Uh basically in the olden days, those who wanted to give their loved one's engagement rings, at times went into debt. My non-traditional view is, a momento of the engagement, in some cultures they had a bracelet, others use a necklace. That is why I call myself non-traditional." Opal replied with a smile.
Spencer nodded slowly in understanding, "Oh, I get what you're saying. I'm sure I'll be able to find something that will do and will suit you perfectly without going into debt." When he had proposed to Sarah, it had been at her request and she had only wanted nothing but the best, which included a ring that cost him way too much and almost sent him into debt. This time around, he wanted to do things right with Opal and find something that matched her personality perfectly, even if it was just a bracelet like she mentioned.
"Now then," he sat up carefully as to not jolt her, "We're not due on duty for a while, and I'm pretty sure our mornings are fairly clear, so what would you like to do? Maybe get some food from a cafe or?"
"Or, we can get cleaned up and eat here. Whichever works for us." Opal feeling the need to move and get a shower. "I have no idea as to why, I am feeling rather hungry." a wink towards Spencer and a giggle.
Spencer raised both eyebrows this time and gave her a look, "How about we get clean for the day and then have something greasy for breakfast to get rid of the rest of the alcohol in our systems from last night? That usually works for me." In his mind, he was thinking that a big breakfast would be perfect right about now and hopefully one of the cafes could rustle up two of them, so they didn't have to leave the room.
"That sounds great to me. Right now, I want to spend as much time as I can get before we need to get busy with work. Maintenance and such on some of the craft, I like to check on things as to what I fly." she paused then added. "Sorry, going to not talk about work just yet." moving from the bed after slipping back on the shirt she had borrowed from Spencer.
He just shook his head in reply and laughed as he too moved away from the bed, put his pants on and walked around it to go and meet her, putting both hands either side of her face again and kissing her passionately, "No, no work. Not just yet. Just you and me, we enjoy this moment, yes? I just realised something though: I'm going to have to meet your parents at some stage and formally ask your father if I can marry you, just to make it completely official and all." He raised his eyebrows and gave her a grin.
"And you'll end up meeting my brothers, and my sister, and don't forget you'll most definitely be meeting my grandmother Amelia, named after Amelia Earhart. Guess you could say I have been inspired by my grandmother." Opal giving a huge smile. " My grandmother is quite the woman. She has the heart and soul of a pilot, sometimes she does barnstorming just for fun. Including a flyby for certain flight towers." Opal chuckling as she recalled an incident just like that.
