The hum of the ship traveling at the warp through the vacuum of space was a soothing sound that David had become to truly enjoy as he leaned back in his chair in his ready room. He shifted his foot on his desk a bit before allowing his other foot to rest on top of the other. It was truly one of the rare moments he felt as though he could allow the washing away from his mind. But a small beep from the monitor reminded him that he wasn’t in a nice cabin in the woods. So the thoughts rushed back as he looked up at the ceiling of the ready room.
What was he going to do with the new information now before him, thanks to his executive officer and his marine commander? He had seen these things before, but that was something he had never had to deal with himself. It wasn’t as though it was a break in rules and regulations, per say, at the time, but there was now a conflict of interest that could be looming over the horizon. If it wasn’t with either of them, which was unlikely, but someone else on the crew. It wasn’t as though he didn’t trust his crew, but this was something that he personally didn’t want to tempt others with the concern with this situation. But what he, personally, had the biggest concern about was that his first officer was supposed to be able to lead away missions. Now that it was off the table as he wasn’t going to try and waste time questioning each and every order he would have to give. Not that she couldn’t do some work, but he wasn’t going to second guess it. But who was going to her place. Yet again, he was back to square one finding his first officer replacement.
Ever since Commander Kavi had, basically, put up the bug of space exploring and took a full time stationary assignment to tend for her sister and daughter, he had felt as though it wasn’t the same anymore on the Gladiator. They had been together as a team and lead some wonderful personal on the ship throughout the years unlike any assignment he had ever been on. Going through the thick and thin, they had accomplished a lot unlike some had ever expected to ever truly be able to tackle in their star fleet careers. But what was there after this point? He only knew that it wasn’t just going to stop as people and places weren’t always the same.
Those thoughts came to a holt as the stars stopped streaming by. He took a deep breath before allowing his feet to fall down to the floor launching the rest of his body upright into a standing position. He made his way through the ready room door onto the bridge, where he nodded at his crew before taking his position in front of his chair. He looked at the display before him as the passive sounds of consoles and personal comely around him flowed as usual.
“Coming into range of Esquimalt Station now. Dropping down to a quarter impulse,” the helm officer called out. In the distance, they saw a couple starships not to far off from the more militaristic waypoint station. Taking similar resemblance to a Cardassian Nor class station, the Ithaca class station was not a starbase class station at all. It had six docking for starships, and the other ships were required to orbit the station and transport aboard. If there were ever a station that he would command, that was the class he would hope he would be assigned. The shear militaristic capability of the station packed a punch for the size they were.
“Captain, Esquimalt’s Operations have already cleared us for immediate docking. They are also sending a Priority 1 message our way, for you, sir,” the ops officer addressed as she looked over her shoulder at him. “Your eyes only, it is from a Rear Admiral Yoshi Minawara.”
“Transfer it to my console,” David ordered as he watched his crew work hard. He looked over at his marine commander who had taken a relaxing sitting next to him where the 2nd XO be seated. He smirked.
“Hey Davy, Sounds like you have a secret admirer,” John smirked as he leaned back slightly shifting before finally relaxing. He had preferred to have been the one to fly the boat, but in this case, the helm officer needed the extra practice. “That Yoshi name sounds familiar… Seems like a name I would crack a joke about.”
“You did, and you were escorted away from him by Tayla during his visit on the Gladiator a couple months ago. We were testing out the new modified quantum slipstream drive that was installed on the ship. He was a commodore then ad was promoted and took over Task force… 72.”
“Glad someone is keeping up with politics for the fleet,” Hayter shrugged.
“Yeah…” the captain smirked slightly before looking down and unlocking the data burst. Within moment, his mood went from cheerful to… “What the shit?”
“What?” John asked quickly as he looked over at him, completely caught off guard.
David looked over at his comrad, former trainee and now trusted most ranked marine officer that had been assigned to his ship. “Effective immediately, I have been removed from command of the Gladiator.”
“What the shit?”
“I am being reassigned…”
